Religion was an essential part of the daily lives of Egyptians. Even today its multifaceted pantheon of deities fascinates us, with its hybrid beings, the half animal half human figures that are so foreign to us. But how did the Egyptian religion come into being? How did the oldest temples look?
Heidi Köpp-Junk will provide insight into the Egyptian world of gods, and present the earliest archaeologic and textual records from the beginnings of Egyptian religion, which from early onreflect a surprising complexity.
The researcher will also explain the pharaoh’s role within the Ancient Egyptian state and religion.
Lecture in German.
